Deputy Secretary of State William Burns issues first ever Admission of Wrongdoing for the US refusal to grant safe haven to the passengers of the SS St. Louis
Belgian Ambassador to the US Jan Matthysen accepts the Proclamation of Gratitude given to the representatives of Belgium, The Netherlands, France and the United Kingdom by the surviving passengers of the SS St. Louis. The Proclamation was given in appreciation to these countries for granting them safe haven when they were forced to return to Europe.
